Upcoming events

In yesterday's post, ShoreTurtle asked which Michigan marathon I plan on doing. Right now, I am contemplating the Freep Marathon, simply because (1) it is reasonably close to home; (2) it's several weeks post-Chicago, so I should be able to hobble through it; and (3) it sounds like a fun course.

Next year will include Florida for certain, and probably Chicago again, but I want to add Indiana and Ohio. I'd think about Wisconsin, but will have to see when the dates are set for next years races.

Marathons aside, I've signed up for a 10k later this year (June something, I think), and will be adding another 10k and a half-marathon for April. I think I might manage a 5k sometime this summer, and there is my usual half-marathon on Labor Day weekend.

I do need to start planning and budgeting for all the airfare and hotels that trying to do 3-6 marathons per year is going to cost, in time and money. I'm not going to worry about doing a lot of them now, but it's something that I need to keep in mind.

Oh yeah - tonight's run was quarter mile repeats. Fun fun fun. Really, honest. Even though they hurt, and I was wearing my heavy shoes. I'm sure they get better eventually, once I do enough of them.

50 before 50

It's a ways off, but I would like to plan on doing one marathon in every state before I turn 50. So far, I've only covered Illinois, but I might add Michigan later this year. Next year, I'll knock off Florida, and hopefully Indiana, Ohio and maybe one or two others. I'd like to do some early, before I start feeling the crunch in my mid-40s. I have time to plan for it, and I don't plan on racing all of them, just running them.

I'm also wanting to do 100 marathons at some point. So far, I have 2. It's a good thing I don't need to see instant results, huh?

Logging the miles, but not blogging them

I'm still here, I'm still running, but really, at the moment, blogging is coming in well behind sleep and running in terms of priorities. The little one is getting better about sleeping, though she still does not sleep well in her crib, but that's improving too. And the munchkin is all over the map - some days he sleeps in until 7:30 (ah, luxury!), other days he crawls into our bed at 4 am, and sometimes he wakes up between 4 and 5 and refuses to go back to sleep.

I'll try to write more later, but I just finished running, and now I need a shower. After that, I have to do laundry, load the dishwasher, clean up the mobile disaster center, and try to take care of some piddly little household tasks. Oh, and, if I should get the chance, sleep.

It's been a looooong week.

OKay, I'm finally running again. Actually, I finally started running last Thursday, but haven't gotten around to making a blog post until today. Why not? Well, because we have a little person in the house who doesn't sleep through the night. And no, I am not talking about the baby; I am talking about the munchkin. For the last 6 weeks or so, he has been waking up an average of once per night, and a couple times per week, he's up at midnight and about 3 am. Toss in his early rise of 6 am, and then add a new baby, and no one is really rested in this house.

This makes some things more difficult - like keeping an even temper during the trials of potty training. Yeah, we keep taking two steps forward and one step back. He almost had it down, and then between the holidays, me being gone for my moms illness and funeral, and the new baby, he regressed back to wetting through his pants. Hopefully, we can get this taken care of soon - I am tired of changing both him and the baby. :)

Time for another update

OKay, let me confess - I haven't run since Saturday. It's not because of the new arrival. It's because of what happened on my long slow run for Saturday. I was chugging along, not as fast as I would like, but not terribly disappointed, for the first 5 miles or so. Then, because it was a long run, and I need to get back in the habit, I sucked down a Gu.

And started coughing. And coughing. And coughing. A mile later, I was still hacking. It wasn't the Gu; I had come down with the same cold that passed from my wife to son to in-laws to me and the little one. The munchkin had it the worst, but I had it bad enough that running was out of the question.

So, I took off until today, and logged an easy 4 miles. I'm waaay behind schedule, and the race I wanted to run in March is closed. (My fault, really - I kept putting off registration because we weren't sure if we were going to be in the area of the race; I should have just signed up and made arrangements on my own. Oh well; I'll run it next year.)
