Okay, I took yesterday off. . .

but I ran today. See, my shins had been bugging me, which I suspect is a combination of ramping up my miles pretty quickly (after two weeks of no-impact biking), and changing shoes.

ORN: 4 miles, sub 30 minutes, plus another 9 miles on the bike. I biked 3 miles first as a warmup, ran the 4 miles (the first two at 8 mph, and then I ramped up the speed for the second half), and then the other 6 miles on the bike.

So, as I said above, I switched shoes. I had been running in Asics Gel Foundation VI for almost a year, but I've been examining the old shoes the last couple of times when I bought new ones, and I think I have been overcorrecting my my overpronation. So, after some research, and with some trepidation, I switched to Mizuno Wave Inspire 2. I gotta admit, so far they feel pretty good, and I figure I lightened my running load by almost half a pound.

We're considering buying a treadmill for here at home. I'd like to do doubles a couple of times per week, if not more, and I admit there are days where I simply do not get to the Y, and if the weather is bad, I'd still like to get a run in. I'm thinking we might be able to get by on one of the less expensive models. I'd like something with a nice long deck, a 3.0 CHP commerical grade motor, 0-15 degrees of inclination, and lost of other fun things, but the reality is that anything with a 2.5 CHP motor and 0-12 mph/0-12 incline is probably going to last me for at least three or four years.

Switching tracks, as I said in a previous post, I am once again participating in NaNoWriMo. The basic goal is to write an average of 1667 words per day, every day, for the month of November. If all goes according to plan, you have the rough and ugly beginnings of an novel - because you are not supposed to go back and edit things as you write; just make notes on what you may have to change and blaze on. So far, I am at 18,612 words, or 37.22%, and I plan to get well past the 20k mark today. Last year, I finished up just before Thanksgiving, and I'd like to do the same this year.

Excuses, excuses

Okay, I have been running and biking. My runs are still only 3-5 miles, and then about 6-12 miles of biking. More on that tomorrow.

I haven't been blogging because of NaNoWriMo (see sidebar). Synopsis - write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. I'm ahead of schedule, but this weekend may blow it.
